This will be my final report as part of the Grant Ward Scholarship. I would again like to thank the NQ committee for their support during this testing year.
The second half of the year has been quite busy and involved an immense amount of travel. The State Schools were held in Cairns where I started well and finished 13th overall. We then travelled to Brisbane where I had my best results for the Gary Player making the cut, finishing 12th in my age group and being awarded most improved player for the tournament. Pacific is a hard track, and I was happy with this having missed the cut previously. Only home for a few days I headed north for the Townsville events where I finished 3rd at Rowes Bay, 1st at Tropics and 3rd again at Townsville.
A few weeks later went back to Rowes Bay for the Men’s Open where I was best junior and fourth in the open division. We then headed west to Charters Towers who had not run a Junior event for some time. The passion of the locals and the committee made it a great event and I was proud to be the winner. I then went back to Rowes Bay and finished top 10 in the Men’s division of the NQ Open. NQ and Rowes Bay did a great job given the timing.
The final event of the year for me was the GNJM where I was in the 17yrs Boys and representing the NQ district in the District Points challenge.
The conditions were horrific with days 1 and 4 being abandoned. I shot 1 over, 2 over to finish fourth and pleased to say that I won the Junior Golf District Points Final against all other districts. I was quite pleased being the inaugural winner and in a nett event to win off scratch I thought was a good ending to the year for me.
2021 will be my final year as a junior and I intend to play as many district events as possible.
My handicap is now scratch, and I will continue to practice and work on my fitness and fundamentals.
I again would like to thank the Grant Ward, the committee and wish all of them, the players and their families a merry Xmas Happy New year and a better 2021.
See you at the tournaments
