From Golf Queensland Management Committee: Please note that the following changes have been implemented by us after proposals put forward by the Match Committee. All Men’s Pennants have been changed to teams of 8 with no reserves. Reasons for this is to make all clubs more competitive in the A Grade as the top 4 or 5 clubs have the numbers to put forward very strong teams to 11 whilst Ayr, Home Hill, Pioneer Valley and Proserpine etc fall away at the bottom end. Also clubs have been invited to put more than one team in as to give more of their players a chance to compete, as there is many people out there who never get a chance to compete in Pennants. The reason for no reserve is the fact that it costs to send an extra person, who sometimes doesn’t get a game or someone sits out who doesn’t want to. Also with the extra teams is that we want to have as many players on a course as possible to make staging these events viable for the clubs as well. One comment I have seen why change something that is working well? Let me assure in the past 20 years I would hate to think of the number of times I have had calls from clubs pulling out of all grade up to the Friday night of the event or just no shows at all. We are looking outside the square and trying to fix something that is a problem as well as look after our members, the clubs, and their members, you people. With regards to the Inter Associations Event we have always chosen the Top 4 from the A Grade Points score and it was felt that, whilst this has been working, what are we doing for all our people playing and competing. Our chances of winning the gross part of this event are very slim as the strong SE corner teams always have such low figure handicaps in their teams so it was decide by giving the chance to the winners of our 4 Grades in the Trophy points for the year it gives us a better chance in the net part of the event. Let me assure you there is a number of Districts out there that have been doing this for years. We are trying look outside the tunnel vision and encompass as many of the over 4000 members we have to be a part of our competitive teams as well. If you want further information please contact Jim Johnson (Match Chair) or Ross Byrnes (Secretary) Jim JohnsonRoss Byrnes Yours in golf. GNQ Management Committee
